Amiri Geuka Farris conceptually explores his roots and cultural bonds to influence his artwork, This body of work explores colorism, which is a currently relevant and powerful perspective of how we are superficially defined, or discriminated against, by skin tone.
Through aesthetically pleasing images and figurative works on brown paper shopping bags, Amiri shows us that sometimes by simply shifting the perspective we hold of ourselves and each other that a new deeper meaning can emerge to the forefront. If one is judged simply by the tone of one’s skin, thoughts lead to bias, discrimination, racism, negative image of self. Within this new body of work a deeper meaning will become clear if we simply look beyond the surface.
